In September 2021, Maison & Objet held its first exhibition in Paris since the pandemic. A large number of artistic products related to the home are presented, like an exquisite meditation of the designers. Can we say that the exhibition had even more meaning because of the pandemic? It is true that the comfort of the home has become a safeguard and the ecological environment Grail?

At Maison & Objet, the Chinese cashmere brand Sandriver, with the theme "Sunrise Grassland", presented a new interpretation of cashmere under the "gene" of the Mongolian prairie, restoring the ancient technique of hand-felting in the nomadic life, and recreating it with contemporary thinking.

Today's way of life, the memory of the nomads, the memory of the yurt as a protective home, all this is reinterpreted through the traditional spiritual core of hand felting. Because the memory of Mongolian craftsmanship is gradually fading and the concept of nomadism has moved from the grasslands to the city, Sandriver hopes to connect the memories of the past to the needs of the present, and thus pass on the know-how of ancient times. The aim is to present the unique charm of Mongolian handmade felts through a restoration that has lasted for years

The opening piece of the Sandriver exhibition, a huge handmade cashmere blanket, was made by several craftsmen gathered in the workshop for a month. Here they painstakingly restored the nomadic tribal felting technique, with dots and dashes, in the form of an artful painting, with soft colors and the uniqueness of the loose wool fibers of cashmere, penetrating each other and then embracing the form. It is a true creation, a combination of painting techniques, created by artists, designers, craftsmen, embroiderers, and other members of the collective. The cashmere cover, light and soft, is a rare work, but also representative of the concept of "Zero Waste".

Indeed, championing the sustainable development of Chinese cashmere, Sandriver is dedicated to the contemporary expression of ancient craftsmanship as an active legacy on the high-quality material of cashmere, sparing no effort to disseminate the techniques.

Deeply rooted in the Mongolian tradition to which it belongs, this family-owned company has its own goat farm, its own manufacturing and Research and Development units. In this way, Sandriver masters the entire cashmere production chain, which guarantees its integrity and ethics, always with a view to Eco-responsibility.

The brand has twelve boutiques in China and Japan and is also a partner of the Aman and CURLY hotels. In France, it is currently sold at Le Bon Marché in Paris.
